Organizing Your Paper Party Week #1: Taxes

  • Buffer

Today’s the day to tackle that cluttered paper!  Are you ready???  I sure am.  Lets get this party started!

Mommy’s Paper Clutter…EEK!

I am going to open my home to you so I can show you the disaster on my desk:

There ya have it folks. I did it.  I showed you my paper clutter.  Yes I’m a super organized person, but when it comes to paper I’ve always failed to keep my paper mess under control.

My desk is pretty much the catch-all for all things paper work.  The second the mail walks through my front door it ends up in piles on my desk.  Generally I’ll get a lot of papers I don’t want to put away because I either have no idea what to do with them, I don’t want to forget about them, or it’s something I want to give to someone I’ll probably see soon.  The ebook has solved all those problems. I simply have to implement the systems and I’ll be good to go (and you will too;))!

If you don’t have this ebook yet, then I highly recommend you buy it!  It’s cheap and a wealth of knowledge that will revolutionize your life.  It sure has mine.

Now Lets Get Moving!

All we’ll be doing today is gathering all our tax documents and putting them in one place.  I had mine jumbled with all my other files in the top drawer of my 2 drawer cabinet.  If you’re even less organized than I am then you may be working on this one longer than I did.  Breath and focus on the task at hand.  Refuse to entertain any thoughts that “it’s too much work” or “I don’t have time for this” (or whatever thoughts that hinder your progress…and they’ll come, trust me).  Just focus on the task at hand

Here’s what the mess looked like in my filing cabinet:

Since I wasn’t really using the bottom drawer, I moved all of my tax documents into that one until we get back to it later:

Easy!  You can put yours in a box if you’d like because we’ll be getting to it again in the future.

It was very fast and simple for me, but if it’s not so simple for you because you’ve got everything slung all over the place, don’t worry!  You can do this, I promise.  When you’re done, you’ll be even more motivated to get the rest finished.

  • I am So excited! I love that you are challenging people to go through their paper clutter!

It has been 8 months since I really purged mine, so I am going to do it too!

I have serious challenge with paper clutter. Yours, Kaui looks like a dream compared to mine. I have several projects and also am a hoarder. I have been working on clearing stuff for the past number of days. Basically just putting things in new piles with labels and THROWING bunches of stuff into two other piles – RECYCLE & SHRED! I so identify with the “want to keep but don’t know what to do with” feelings.
In regards to other STUFF that I am working on organizing I have added a new comment to my organizing mantra after you and I talked about someone else needing what I don’t need. The new phrase is “Am I willing to let this ______ (name of item) worth about $?.00 impact my life with either frustration or space?” Then I remind myself what I am making space for – in my case I want to clear and create more beauty in my home. So Far this has been working.

    • You are on the right track, Heidi. The first step is to admit you have a problem and you’ve already done that. Congratulations! And I love your new mantra!

One thing I’d challenge you to do is to stop calling yourself a hoarder because as a woman thinketh in her heart, so shall she be. If you want to overcome this and become organized then keep saying out load that you are organized. By doing so you will be doing 2 things: (1) you are speaking it into existence which is what God did when He worked on the creation, and (2) your mind will automatically begin thinking as someone who is organized and it will motivate you to actually “become” organized.

Keep in mind that organizing is a journey, not a means to an end. You’ll become organized eventually, just give it time. And feel free to ask me questions!!
