How I Organize My Kitchen #3: The Accessories

  • Buffer

Due to the 4th of July in the middle of this week, I decided to put this post up today and take a break for the Make Your Money Work For YOU series.  Enjoy today’s post!

How To Organize Your Kitchen Accessories

(Psst: have you taken a look at the other posts in this small series?)

Kitchen accessories can be very annoying, especially if you don’t have much drawer space to put them in.  Or maybe you do have a lot of drawers, but your accessories are constantly getting scattered all over the place and it takes you several minutes to find each item you need (what a time waster!).

The funny thing is that organizing the accessories in my kitchen is my favorite part (I guess I’m just a wee bit crazy, lol ;) ).  So I wanted to detail what I like to do with my accessories so you can hopefully do the same thing for yourself and save yourself a lot of trouble.

Put All Accessories In Once Place

Whether it’s in one drawer, or several drawers in one area of your kitchen, keep them all together.  Trust me, it can be really stressful when you’re cooking something and you have to run to 3 different drawers on opposite ends of the kitchen to get all of what you need.  It’s a breath of fresh air when you have to get a few accessories and you know you’re gonna find all of them in one area.

Use Containers!

I remember back when I was overwhelmed with being a SAHM due of the constant mess I was drowning in.  It seemed like no matter how often I tried to keep the house clean it would always end up being a mess within a day or two.

Then I stumbled upon Orgjunkie’s blog and read about her “addiction” to containerizing.  It literally revolutionized my life!  I suddenly went from taking an entire day to clean my small 2 bedroom apartment to cleaning it in less than a couple of hours!

So, of course, I use containers for my kitchen accessories.  No more spending 5 minutes looking through an entire drawer full of random stuff to find a small straw for a specific sippy cup!  When I need something, it takes me less than 10 seconds to find exactly what I want.  And as a bonus, I can fit a lot more into one drawer when using containers than when I don’t use containers.

They don’t have to be expensive.  The ones I bought were 3 for a dollar at my local dollar store.  No one but you will see them (ehem, unless you’re like me and you show the world what everything in your kitchen is like ;) ).  So there’s no need to get fancy with these.

And then there’s our utensils (pretty self explanatory):

Next, accessories I don’t use as often:

I even have a drawer that doesn’t have much in it:

Who says you have to fill every nook and cranny of your house???  I believe in simplicity.  The more space I have in my house that has nothing in it (regardless of whether it’s big or small), the simpler my life is.  That means I save time and money.  You can’t argue with that!

Oh, and in case you’re wondering, all of these drawers are on the left end of my kitchen where I can get to all of them quickly.

How do you organize your accessories?  Does this help you at all?  I’d love to hear about it!
