Overcoming My Medical Nightmare: Vlog Series

  • Buffer

I’m having to detour once again from my Make Your Money Work For YOU series due to this awful medical issue I have.  I don’t know what it is, I’ve seen numerous doctors about it, and it is making my life a disaster!

The only reason I’ve maintained my blog is because I LOVE it so much.  It helps me stay sane somehow.  I like to call it my “personal hiding place.”  It’s somewhere I can be to just be me, not mommy and kids, or wife and hubby, or homemaker and dirty dishes!

Nevertheless, I still struggle with doing all that I want to do with this blog because of this debilitating medical mystery I deal with daily!!

And my poor family :( .  My kids suffer the most because mommy struggles so much.  When I am feeling particularly bad I get so easily stressed out, and as we all know, having children around IS stressful!  I have a very hard time controlling myself most of the time and keeping from emotionally scarring them.  Thankfully I haven’t had any problems with physical abuse!  I’d probably be suicidal if I was that bad!

I’ve created a video to go with this post that details all of my symptoms.  If you are dealing with the same thing I’d love to hear from you!  It would be nice to know that I’m not the ONLY one going through this, because I’m to the point of thinking that I’m just some kind of psycho :( (you can totally tell that I’m exhausted here :( )

Can’t see this video? View it here.

{UPDATE: Since I mentioned the Herbalogica “detox” weightloss program I’m doing to hopefully dig myself out of the pit I’m in, I’m turning this into a video log series…STAY TUNED!}

I think about you guys often !! I was sorry to see this post :( You are not crazy!!! I can only imagine how frustrated you must feel. I am very impressed with your honesty and willingness to share what is happening so that your journey may help others !!!

    • Hi Alissa!! Long time no see!! Thanks for letting me know I’m not crazy. Sometimes I certainly feel like I am. And yes I’m totally willing to use my experiences to help others, even if it does mean that I have to look like an idiot/bad mom/crazy woman…you get the point ;)

    Hi Kaui,
I’m watching your video, and several things come to mind, I had those same things, and there were several contributors to it: low thyroid; systemic yeast infection; and good ol’ stress especially contributes to the lack of focus. I have the Yeast Connection book and it has a quiz in it that will help identify if you have it. Also, if you would like, after our kids are gone, would you like me to come over 1 time a week or so? I would like to do that if you would like. Let me know, and I will be praying for you and let me/us know how we can help. Shalom to you, Pam

    • I would love that, Pam. Thanks so much for offering. I totally forgot to tell you this last shabat that we’ll be going to Hawaii on the 31st. In fact I was going to ask if you’d be willing to drive us to the air port and maybe pick us up? We’ll talk details later. Hugs.

    Aloha Ka’ui,

Don’t worry honey, it seems to me that you have a case of good old fashioned depression. You have been stressed and on overload for years, and your body is probably reacting. I know that you demand a LOT of yourself, and you want to be the best Christian/Military wife and mother that you can be…but something has to give! All of the symptoms you describe are depression symptoms. It could be that the springy/happy/light Ka’ui (that was your being before marriage) needs an outlet so you can feel like “you”. I know that you know about the importance of sacrifce and all of that, but losing your core persona is totally depressing, and you could be grieving on an unconscious level. I recommend splurging on a babysitter twice a week and do something that you LOVE that is just for you. Also, SAM-E is a natural supplement that helps with depression. Love, Monique

    • Thanks for the ideas Monique. I’ve actually visited the realm of depression before and it didn’t help my condition when I took happy pills. What helped a little were the supplements I now take for a hormonal imbalance, but it still didn’t solve all my problems. As it turns out I’ve had several problems instead of just one. I’m now doing a long term diet change that focuses on getting my yeast under control so it’s no longer taking my body over. I already feel incredible, although still not totally up to par. I’ll be posting more on it soon. Hugs.

Every once in a while I pop by your blog, and am sad to see you are going through this. It sounds like you have narrowed it done to being a food related issue? I know that I have problems with gluten, and it definitely impacts my whole body when I eat it, including my brain power. I find that I am best when I eat close to a paleo diet: Lean meats, berries, nuts and veggies. Is it boring sometimes? Yes. Do I cave in? Yes. But if I stick to it I feel better.

    • Thanks for sharing, Linda. It appears that I’ve been suffering from an overgrowth of yeast, which apparently is very difficult to overcome. But I’ve found a program that has so far helped me get it all under control. I’ll be posting more on it the near future. It has saved my life!

A friend of mine sent me this link. I am going through a lot of the same things that you are except I am fighting what we thought was hormonal acne (which is now scarring). I am currently starting my 3rd month of Diflucan along with probiotics, coconut oil pills, diatomacious earth and the “dreaded anti-candida diet” (which I am not diligent with). I have noticed a big difference with my fatigue (most days I still take adderall) and my face is not as bad but today, I am calling my doctor and asking for a higher dose of diflucan. I haven’t been strict with the diet because it makes me mad, lol. However, I don’t know if it’s because I’m killing the candida, limiting my sugar or everything as a whole but I have dropped quite a bit of weight. When I am strict with the diet, I lose 1 lb. per day and that freaks me out. I have 3 more months left on Diflucan and because I haven’t really really started clearing up, I’m getting bummed. Advice????

    • Hi Jeni. I am so sorry that you’re going through all of that. The anti-candida diet is not fun at all, but I can assure you that it is worth it. I am no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I can tell you that when I started the diet for the first 2 weeks I allowed myself to rest and pretty much do nothing but get meals on the table for the kids. While you’re doing the diet your body will detox which will make you feel pretty miserable, which also means that you will be very edgy. Give yourself some grace and switch into survival mode. Use paper plates if you have to for a while. I can also say that this has been a journey. I have almost completed the 3 months of this diet and I am only now reaching a point where I’m functioning at the highest level. Your body will take time to reset.

One thing that helped me get through this tough diet was setting short term goals for myself. For example, I decided that if my symptoms were not improving by the time I reached 2 weeks I would quit. When I reached the 2nd week and realized that I was improving I set another short term goal…and so on and so forth. If you do this, be sure that you are 100% committed, otherwise you will not improve as much and you may have to start all over.

I don’t know exactly what your doctor has told you to do, but I very highly recommend you look into Herbalogica’s program. Their supplements are the best I’ve EVER had. I also suggest you look into seeing a naturepath. I dealt with regular doctors for many years and I suffered way longer than I should have. All they did was run me in circles. When I finally went to see a naturepath (my first appointment was at the beginning of the diet) he found out that I was intolerant to several things, some of which were allowed in the diet (such as eggs and butter). When I cut those things out of my diet I improved even more. This is a possibility for you.

I hope this helps! Good luck, my friend! And please keep me updated. Feel free to email me whenever you like :)
