Wanna See My New And Improved Pot & Pan Holder??? You Will LOVE It!

Remember my makeshift pot/pan/spice rack holder?

Kitchen Space Saver

It desperately needed an upgrade for several reasons:

  1. People kept running into it making a horribly loud noise all the time.
  2. I’ve accumulated many more spices than what you see here that really needed a home.
  3. I really wanted to free up more countertop space.

My knives used to be in a block on the counter behind the stove right next to my cooking utensils:

They were always in my way, and since I am constantly looking to increase my countertop space (especially with such a small kitchen), I couldn’t wait to get them on my wall instead.

Here’s what we did

Like I said before, I’ve been totally inspired by all the useful and pretty things pallets can make.  So of course I came up with another use for a pallet in my kitchen:

1.  We found a pallet.

2.   We painted it:

3.  Then hubby cut some small pieces of wood to install under the top piece making a shelf so it would hold our cooking utensils and the like (sorry didn’t get a chance to get a pic of this step :( ).

4.   We used 8 drywall anchors to secure the pallet on the wall:

Using anchors to hold all the weight of the pallet and kitchen accessories on the wall

5.   Then we used white cup hooks to hang the pans:

 6.   And a magnetic knife strip to hang our knives:

And that’s how you get this:

(you can see where we put the shelf under the cooking utensils and pan lids)

Hanging pots, pans, cooking utensils, and spices on the wall

The rack I was using I now use only for spices and I hung that next to my pallet.  It’s really nice having them all in one spot now instead of spread out all over the place.

Now here’s my countertop:

Booyah!  How about them apples, huh?!  Now if I could just come up with some way to cover up the back of that ugly stove…

Suggestions anyone???

  • What an awesome idea! I love it! This is great for people with small kitchens — especially if remodeling is out of the question.

Well, I don’t know if I can explain it to enough detail…but to put it simply, tile it! I would get a piece of wood. Like 2 x 6 (or even something an inch thick)? and cut it down to fit the width of the stove. Then I would attach to the back of it some brackets that would then attach to the back of the wall behind the stove. There are 2 ways of doing this. Attach it to the wall and put it in place…then tile it with something to match the counter tops. Or tile it first and then put it in place and attach. One way would be more moveable. That is what I would do and it would be super easy, and if you attach it right you might not loose much counter top at all. Or better yet, get that 1 inch thick piece of board and get some shims. Have the wood be long enough so that it will it will hang below the counter by about 6 inches? Then I would tile the top portion that would show above the counter plus about an inch. Once it is done and grouted, (and dried) take the shims and attach them to the lower part, under the tiling, and attach enough of them so that the shims are the same thickness of as the tiles. Then you are going to attach the wood to the back of the wall behind the stove and if you do this right, then the tile won’t hang over the counter at all. Does any of this make any sense at all? You would need to tile down the sides and top of the board so that it looks good from the kitchen side too. They have some small tiles that would make it possible. It wouldn’t take that much tile and it would be pretty easy to do.
